KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its first MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week, presented by
Shift Group, for the 2022-23 season.
MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week – Lacy Stokes – Missouri Southern
Last week, the reigning MIAA Player and Freshman of the Year Lacy Stokes averaged 22.0 points, 7.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and a 3.50 assist-turnover ratio while leading the Lions to wins over Henderson State and Harding at the MIAA/GAC Challenge. Stokes began the week with 18 points, six assist, five rebound and two steals in a 74-59 win against the Reddies before ending the week with a commanding 26-point, eight assist and five rebound 68-66 victory at Harding. The sophomore guard was 10-of-18 from the field and 2-of-4 from three to lead the No. 19-ranked Lions to a perfect 4-0 start to the season.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Tre’Zure Jobe – Emporia State
Tre’Zure Jobe averaged 17.5 points and 4.5 steals per game as the Lady Hornets knocked off the teams ranked first and third in the GAC preseason coaches poll. She opened the season with 18 points and five steals in ESU’s 58-57 win at Harding. She then had 17 points, four steals, four rebounds and three assists in the Lady Hornets 79-51 win over Henderson State. She continues to move up the Lady Hornet career charts and is now sixth in career steals with 223 passing Kelly Moten (215 from 2013-17) and ninth in career three-point field goals with 154 passing Amy Redmon (153 from 1988-92).
Brooke Littrell – Central Missouri
Brooke Littrell helped Jennies basketball open the season 2-0 with a pair of in-region wins over Northern State and MSU in Moorhead, Minn. The redshirt sophomore averaged 20.5 points per game and shot 53.6 percent from the field in two games. She scored 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting in UCM’s season-opening win over Northern State before posting 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting and a 7-for-9 performance at the free-throw line in the victory at MSU Moorhead.
Sarah Schmitt – Nebraska Kearney
Sarah Schmitt, the Lopers’ new starting point guard, averaged a team-best 12.0 points per game this weekend as the Lopers won two Crossover games with a 69-49 win over UM-Crookston and a 67-57 victory over Southwest Minnesota State. The redshirt junior shot 55.6 percent from the field and 75 percent at the line while also averaging 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
