Washburn Wins 2022 MIAA Volleyball Tournament Championship

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Washburn won the 2022 MIAA Volleyball Tournament Championship with a 3-1 victory over Nebraska Kearney. 

20th-ranked and fifth-seeded WU (24-7) pulled off their third straight upset in the tournament en route to its first-ever MIAA Tournament title and clinched the Association’s automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Tournament. 

The Ichabods cruised in the first set winning it 25-18. But 13th-ranked and second-seeded UNK (28-5) answered with a win in the second set 25-19. Washburn then rattled off back-to-back wins in sets three and four, winning 25-22 and 25-20 respectively. 

Washburn’s Austin Broadie landed 18 kills and hit .359 for the match. Jalyn Stevenson added 17 kills and 18 digs for the Ichabods. Corianna McMullen and Sydney Conner combined for 53 assists in the victory.

Nebraska Kearney was paced by Emersen Cyza with 18 kills and Jensen Rowse with 24 digs. The Lopers had three players record double digit kills and four players tally 12 or more digs in the match.
