Four MIAA Student-Athletes Selected in 2021 MLB Draft

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Four MIAA baseball players were selected in the 2021 MLB draft which concluded today. Central Oklahoma's Luke Anderson and Northeastern State's Nic Swanson joins Central Missouri's Mason Green and Conor Dryer in continuing their baseball careers at the professional level. 

First-team All-MIAA starting pitcher Mason Green was the first to be drafted as he was selected by the Colorado Rockies as the 350th pick in the 12th round. Green, a lefthanded pitcher from Lenexa, Kan., earned All-America honors in the 2021 season from the CCA, the ABCA/Rawlings and the NCBWA. He finished his senior season with a flawless 16-0 record and posted a 2.32 ERA. Leading the Mules with 123 strikeouts, Green became just the sixth Mule to ever reach 100 strikeouts in a single-season. At 27-0 for his career, Green displays the most wins without a loss in Mules history.

With the 458th pick in the 15th round, the Oakland Athletes selected Central Oklahoma's Luke Anderson. Anderson, a right-handed pitcher from Prairie Village, Kan., spent two seasons at Central Oklahoma. During his short career with the Bronchos, Anderson made 18 appearances which all were starts. He threw just short of 98 innings and struck out 109 batters. Anderson earned second-team All-MIAA starting pitcher honors for the 2021 season with a team-high 76 strikeouts and a 3.96 ERA. 

Another first-team All-MIAA starting pitcher Nic Swanson was drafted by the Houston Astros as the 478th pick in the 16th round. Swanson, a righthanded pitcher from Bixby, Okla. led the nation most of the 2021 season in ERA. He finished the year with the second-best ERA in Division II at 1.55 through a team-high 87 innings pitched. Swanson also led the RiverHawks with 106 strikeouts. He earned CCA All-Region and NCBWA All-America honors for the 2021 season. 

Conor Dryer was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays with the 521st pick in the 17th round. A native from Fenton, Mo., Dryer made 45 apperences at the mound in his four-year career with the Mules. This past season, Dryer threw a season-high 71.2 innings and tied for the team's second-most strikeouts with 78. Dryer also owned the third-most wins for UCM in the 2021 season with a record of 7-2 and finsihed the season with a 3.89 ERA.
