Missouri Southern Women Claim the 2021 Outdoor Track & Field Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- (Final Results) The Missouri Southern women's outdoor track and field program won its first championship since 2010 after posting 145 total points at the 2021 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship today. The event was hosted by Pittsburg State University on Saturday and Sunday. The title is the fourth overall for the Lions, under the direction of coach Bryan Schiding. The team was strong in the throws and the Long Jump. Overall, Missouri Southern had five individuals take top medalist honors. Kirsten Leisinger won the Hammer Throw (59.21 meters) and Claire Luallen was the best in the Long Jump (6.19 meters). Elizabeth Pomatto was the winner in the Javelin Throw (52.57 meters), as she broke MIAA and stadium records in the process. In the 100-meter hurdles, Precious Olatunji topped the field in 14.03. Payton Roberts set the best mark in the Discus Throw (51.07 meters).

In the 4x100-meter relay, the Lions were first with a time of 46.85.

Central Missouri owned second place with 129 total points, followed by Pittsburg State with 93 points.

The Women's High Point champion was Kayla Goodwin of Central Missouri. The freshman was the top finisher in the heptathlon (5,157 points) and the triple jump (12.44 meters).

Qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Championship will be announced on NCAA.com on Tuesday, May 18 at 5 pm CT. The 2021 Championship will take place May 27-29 in Allendale, Mich., hosted by Grand Valley State University.
