Final Results) The Pittsburg State men's outdoor track and field program won its 14th-overall title, this time accumulating 172.50 team points at the 2021 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The event was hosted by Pittsburg State University on Saturday and Sunday.
The Gorillas brought home four individual championships. In the 800-meter run, Mason Strader took first place in a time of 1:57.10. In the 110-meter hurdles, Louis Rollins set an automatic qualifying mark with a clocking of 13.85. In the throws, Brett Thompson broke the MIAA championship record with a javelin throw of 75.49 meters. He broke a record that had stood since 2007. Additionally, Levi Wyrick was champion in the Hammer with a mark of 67.55, which also established a stadium and MIAA record.
Missouri Southern captured second place with 137 points. The defending men's champion Central Missouri finished third with 105.50 points.
The Men's High Point champion was Shemar Fletcher of Lincoln. He was champion in the 100-meter dash (10.45) and the 200-meter dash (21.13). He also was the second runner on the 4x100-meter relay team that took third overall (41.27) and the third runner on the 4x400-meter relay team that also finished third (3:14.34).
Individually, Kizan David of Lincoln - the 2020-21 Winter Male Student-Athlete of the Year - claimed the individual title in the Long Jump with a leap of 7.89 meters. That distance set a stadium record. David was the NCAA national champion for the Indoor Long Jump back in March.
Qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Championship will be announced on NCAA.com on Tuesday, May 18 at 5 pm CT. The 2021 Championship will take place May 27-29 in Allendale, Mich., hosted by Grand Valley State University.
