KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of Central Missouri claimed the 2020-21 Commissioner’s Cup presented by McCownGordon Construction. The Mules and Jennies finished with an average of 12.25 points. This year’s standings only reflect the winter and spring seasons as the 2020 fall season was canceled due to the COVID-19 Global Health Pandemic. Due to an incomplete dual season, wrestling also was not counted in the standings.

Winning its fourth Commissioner’s Cup in the last five years, UCM collected regular-season conference championships in women’s indoor track & field, men’s golf and baseball. Also, the Jennies had a runner-up finish in women’s basketball and softball.

"Central Missouri is thrilled to once again earn the MIAA Commissioner's Cup," said Jerry Hughes, UCM Vice President Intercollegiate Athletics. "In a year unlike any other, our coaches and student-athletes overcame all the challenges they were faced with which is a testament to their talent on the field and their character as people. We are proud to represent the MIAA, the premier conference in Division II."

Missouri Southern, champions in Women's Outdoor Track & Field, took second-place in the Cup standings with 10.65 points.

“As a conference, it is important to celebrate the championships that did occur this year and to recognize the 2020-21 program achievements in the MIAA,” said Commissioner Mike Racy. “The MIAA is honored to once again partner with McCownGordon in presenting this important award as we celebrate the success of our student-athletes and coaches during this challenging academic year."

This marks the fourth-consecutive year McCownGordon has been the presenting sponsor of the Commissioner’s Cup.  McCownGordon has significant experience in a variety of market sectors including planning, servicing, and completing higher education and sports projects and is recognized as one of the region’s largest construction managers with offices in both Missouri and Kansas.  More information about McCownGordon is available here.

The Commissioner’s Cup presented by McCownGordon Construction is an all-sports award presented at the end of each academic year to the association’s top performing school in conference play and is based on a point system, reflecting the finish of each team in conference play.

“McCownGordon is proud to partner with the MIAA to present the 2020-2021 Commissioner’s Cup to the University of Central Missouri. The trophy awards competitive excellence and embodies the true spirit of teamwork and collaboration. We are also proud to continue our association with the MIAA, its member institutions, and each student-athlete being honored for this outstanding achievement,” stated Ramin Cherafat, McCownGordon Construction CEO.

The number of points awarded per sport is based on the number of schools that participate in that particular sport.  Each institution’s grand point total is then divided by the athletic programs it sponsors, giving an overall average finish for the school.  A complete list of the Points Breakdown and other info on the Cup Scoring System can be found on the MIAA website.
