KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA announced its Baseball Postseason Awards and All-MIAA Teams for the 2021 season. Headlining the group is MIAA Player of the Year Dusty Stroup from Central Missouri. Missouri Southern's Zach Parish claimed the MIAA Pitcher of the Year for the second-straight time. Tommy Stevenson of Missouri Southern was named MIAA Freshman of the Year. Helping Northeastern State to a No. 2-seed in the upcoming MIAA Tournament, head coach Jake Hendrick boasts the Coach of the Year accolade.
Dusty Stroup was a wrecking ball at the plate for the Mules, helping UCM to the 2021 regular-season championship. He led the MIAA in several power categories, which included home runs (18), RBI (54) and slugging percentage (.881). He also ranked second in batting average (.411), runs scored (48) and third in hits (62). Stroup transferred from conference member Missouri Western where he was the 2017 MIAA Co-Freshman of the Year at shortshop.
Parish was a mainstay for the Lions staff going 10-1 on the year with 127 strikeouts in 83 1/3 innings. He allowed a league-low 12 earned runs. His strikeouts and ERA were a MIAA-best, along with ranking No. 1 in opponent batting average (.163) and batters struck out looking (41).
As a catcher for Missouri Southern, Stevenson was first in the league in doubles (19), second in RBI (49), fourth in home runs (12) and fifth in slugging percentage (.677). In 40 games, he batted .329 with a 1.072 OPS and 35 runs scored. Earlier this year, he had a season-long 11-game hitting streak capped by a 6-for-7 effort at the plate against Fort Hays State on March 27.
Coach Hendrick is in his sixth season as the skipper of the RiverHawks. He surpassed the 100-win threshold this year and took NSU to its most conference victories (23) during his tenure. This is the first time he collects the Coach of the Year honor. His RiverHawks are set to take on No. 7 Rogers State starting Friday in the MIAA Quarterfinal round.
The top eight teams in the MIAA are gearing up for the MIAA Championship, presented by Mammoth Sports Construction starting Thursday at on-campus sites. For more information on the championship, click here.
