KANSAS CITY, Mo. - (Championship Central | Results) Central Oklahoma led from start-to-finish and won the 2021 MIAA Women's Golf Championship held at the Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville, Okla. The Bronchos recorded a three-round, 33-over par 933 (302-310-321) to win their first conference championship since 2015 and fourth overall. UCO got it done with consistent play on par 4s (4.47 average), with the best average amongst the 11 teams, and a tournament-best 27 birdies.
Ranked third in the NCAA Central Region, Central Oklahoma has now punched its ticket to the NCAA Central Regional, May 3-5 at the St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Mo.
The second and final day was not short of drama as both Central Missouri and Rogers State put on a charge in the final round. Heading into the third round, Rogers State was 11 strokes behind UCO and Central Missouri was trailing by 14 strokes. Today, Central Missouri made up 13 strokes coming up just short to swing a 934 (322-304-308), one stroke off the team championship. The Jennies placed a pair of golfers in the top-five with Elizabeth Leath (third) and Rosie Klausner (tied-fifth).
Rogers State secured the No. 3 placing with a 940 (311-312-317). Mariana Flores took second individually with an 11-over par 227 (72-73-82). MIAA Player of the Year Jessica Green tied for fifth with a 16-over par 232 (81-78-73).
MIAA Freshman of the Year Susana Olivares displayed consistency in winning the individual championship. With a 7-over par 223 (72-74-77), Olivares had 36 pars in the tournament, which was a player-best. She also led all golfers in Par 3 average (3.08) and Par 4 average (4.13).
Northeastern State, the four-time defending league champion, finished in fourth-place overall with an 83-over par 947 (319-310-318).
