UCM Leads After Day 1 at MIAA Men's Golf Championship

MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. - Behind the strength of five top-15 individual golfers, the University of Central Missouri is in first place after two rounds at the 2021 MIAA Men's Golf Championship from Shangri-La Golf Course and Resort. Due to expected inclement weather tomorrow, 36 holes were played today and 18 is scheduled for Tuesday beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT, which will close out the championship.

Ian Barnes of UCM leads his club with a one-under par 143 (70-73), which is tied for third overall. Thomas Henson is right behind him with an even-144 (76-78), to stand fifth on the player leaderboard. Central Missouri was in second place after the first round, but thanks to a 2-under par second round (287), the Mules took over the team lead from Washburn. The Ichabods held the lowest score after 18 holes, with a three-over par 291.

Individually, Rogers State's Luke Palmowski claimed the best round of any golfer with a second-round seven-under par 65. Overall, he tops all individuals with a 136, which is a six-stroke lead over second place Griffin Mott of Washburn.


Central Missouri is tied for the most conference championships won with 22. The Mules last won the hardware back in 2015.

The 2021 MIAA Men's Golf All-Championship Team will be announced immediately following the event. The All-MIAA Teams, Coach of the Year, Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year will be announced later in the week.
