Bowman and Ginter Named Mammoth Turf Softball Athletes of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA announced its fourth Softball Athletes of the Week presented by Mammoth Turf for the 2021 season. Rogers State's Makayla Bowman was named the Hitter of the Week and Washburn's Jaycee Ginter was the Pitcher of the Week.

Bowman set a new Rogers State record, hitting two home runs in the same inning, as she led the Hillcats to a school record 15 runs in the first inning against Missouri S&T. Bowman also homered for the 12th-ranked Hillcats at No. 7 Texas A&M-Commerce. On the week, Bowman hit .583 (7-for-12), slugged 1.417 with eight doubles and three homers. Bowman drove in eight runs and scored five more.

For the Ichabods, Ginter was 2-0 in the circle with a 0.00 ERA in 11 innings pitched with 12 strikeouts and one walk allowing only one hit over the weekend holding opponents to a minuscule .030 batting average. She also batted .375 with three RBI and a home run scoring three times. She tossed a complete game one-hit shutout against Southwest Baptist striking out five and against MSU-Moorhead, she tossed four innings striking out seven in the win.

Notable Performances (listed alphabetically)
Rhomie Bradshaw - Northeastern State
Bradshaw batted .500 for the RiverHawks in four games played as Northeastern State went 4-0 overall and pushed their winning streak to seven. The NSU leadoff hitter batted .778 when starting the inning and hit two homers. Bradshaw scored eight runs, added six RBI, and swiped three bags. Bradshaw leads the MIAA in hits (24) through last weekends games and is second in stolen bases. She also has started her career with a 14-game hitting streak.

Brianna Fuchs - Washburn
Fuchs led the Ichabods with a .538 batting average going 7 of 13 with six runs scored, 8 RBI and 10 total bases as the Ichabods were 4-1 on the weekend. She also recorded a .571 on-base percentage and a .769 slugging percentage. She had hits in 4-of-5 games including a 3-hit performance with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored against Wayne State. She had 3 RBI against MSU-Moorhead.

Emma Furnish - Emporia State
Furnish hit .368 with five RBI, three runs, three doubles and a home run as Emporia State went 5-1 at the 5-State Classic at Trusler. She was 1-for-3 against Concordia St. Paul to open the tournament. She had two walks and scored a run in the Hornets run rule win over MSU-Moorhead. She was 1-for-3 against UMSL. She was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI against Southwest Baptist. She went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored a double and a home run against Wayne State. She finally saw her string of reaching base safely in every game come to an end against Quincy.

Sydni Hawkins - Missouri Western
Hawkins helped the Griffons go 5-1 last week as she hit .609 (14-for-23) with two homers, four RBI, eight runs scored and two doubles. Hawkins hit safely in five of the six games and had at least three hits in four of the six.

Andrea Morales - Rogers State
Morales recorded 16 strikeouts on the week in 12.2 innings pitched. Morales tossed her third shutout of the season with nine strikeouts in 5.0 innings against Missouri S&T. Morales also had seven strikeouts against No. 7 Texas A&M-Commerce. Morales held opponents to .196 batting against.

Kelsey Phillips - Emporia State
Phillips went 2-0 with a 0.38 ERA while recording 13 strikeouts and no walks in three games during the 5-State Classic. Phillips went the distance in the circle striking out eight and not allowing a walk while scattering seven hits and a lead-off home run for the only run of the game. Against UMSL, she gave up a single and double in the first but helped herself with the glove as she snagged a line drive and then doubled up a runner at third to end the inning. She then retired 18 of the next 21 batters to toss her second shutout of the season. She allowed just five hits with no walks while striking out two. She tossed 4.1 shutout innings in relief against Wayne State, giving up four hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

Kelly Uthe - Missouri Western
Uthe went 1-1 with a 0.91 ERA in the circle last week for the Griffons and also had one save. She threw 15.1 innings and allowed just three hits and two earned runs. She struck out 10 and walked six. Uthe threw a one-hitter in MWSU's 3-0 win over Sioux Falls on Sunday. She struck out six and walked two in her seven innings of work.

Ashlynn Williams - Missouri Southern
Williams finished the week with nine hits, three double, a triple, two home runs and nine RBIs slugging 1.000, and posting a .450 batting average. Against Concordia-St. Paul in the ESU 5-State Classic, Williams was 2-of-3 hitting her two home runs in the loss.
