Washburn wins 2021 MIAA Men's Basketball Championship

MARYVILLE, Mo. (March 6, 2021) - Washburn's Tyler Geiman nailed a three pointer as time expired in the 2021 MIAA Men's Basketball Championship Game on Saturday at Bearcat Arena in Maryville, Mo., lifting the No. 2 Ichabods to a 69-68 victory. This year's tournament was presented by Citizens Bank & Trust.

The top-ranked Bearcats led by two, 68-66, with two seconds remaining after a made free throw. On the inbounds, Geiman picked the ball up and launched a shot well past half court that connected as the buzzer sounded.

Geiman finished wiht 23 points, five rebounds and five assists. Jalen Lewis led all scorers with 26 points, including four three pointers. Lewis was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Performer and Geiman earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

For the Bearcats, Ryan Hawkins scored 23 points with 10 rebounds and seven steals. Trevor Hudgins had 18 points and Diego Bernard scored 10 points. All three Bearcats were named to the All-Tournament Team.

For Washburn, it was the program's sixth MIAA Tournament Title and the first under head coach Brett Ballard.

The NCAA Division II selection show will be take place on Sunday, March 7 on NCAA.com/Live. The Central Regional will be on March 13-16, in Aberdeen, S.D., at Northern State University.
