MIAA Announces Mammoth Turf Football Athletes of the Week For Week Ten

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The MIAA named its football athletes of the week, presented by Mammoth Turf, for the 10th week of the 2021 season. Fort Hays State’s Chance Fuller was named the offensive athlete of the week while Washburn’s Grant Burner and Jace Williams were selected as the defensive and special teams athletes of the week.   
 
Offensive Athlete of the Week – Chance Fuller – Fort Hays State    
In Fort Hays State’s 64-6 win over Northeastern State, Chance Fuller threw for 223 yards on 17 completions with four touchdowns. With his second touchdown pass of the game, the junior quarterback became the all-time leader in passing touchdowns at FHSU with his 61st.
 
Defensive Athlete of the Week – Grant Bruner – Washburn  
Grant Bruner had a career-high 20 tackles with 10 solo stops and 10 assisted tackles adding a tackle for loss in the Ichabods 28-26 win over Pittsburg State. The junior linebacker had 13 tackles in the second half in the win and had four tackles on the Gorillas final drive prior to the blocked field goal attempt. He became the seventh Ichabod in program history to record at least 20 tackles and the 20 tackles rank tied for fourth on the Ichabod single-game chart.
 
Special Teams Athlete of the Week – Jace Williams – Washbrun     
In his only appearance on special teams during the day, senior Jace Williams blocked a 33-yard Pittsburg State field goal attempt with 30 seconds to play in the game to preserve the Ichabods 28-26 victory over the Gorillas.
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Offensive
TJ Davis – Nebraska Kearney
Loper quarterback TJ Davis ran 30 times, tying his career-high, for 179 yards and one touchdown while completing 4-of-12 passes for 147 more yards and two touchdowns. Davis also caught a one-yard touchdown pass on a trick play and threw a block to help UNK’s last score. Davis now has 992 rushing yards this season and just went over 3,000 passing yards (3,002) in his career.
 
Braden Gleason – Emporia State
Braden Gleason matched his career high four touchdown passes despite playing just one series in the second half of Emporia State’s 56-21 victory over Lincoln. He was 21-of-27 for 297 yards and four touchdowns while adding 38 yards on the ground. The Hornets scored touchdowns on six of the seven drives Gleason was in the game for. His 297 passing yards moved him into sixth on the ESU single season list with 2,999 yards this season. He is leading the MIAA and ranks sixth in the nation in total offense this season.
 
Al McKeller – Northwest Missouri
Senior running back Al McKeller ran through the Missouri Southern defense as he recorded his sixth 100-yard rushing game on the season with 140 yards. McKeller cashed in three of his 25 carries for touchdown runs. He scored on runs of one yard, two yards and 22 yards.
 
Defensive
Drew Dostal – Northwest Missouri
Senior Drew Dostal intercepted two passes and returned one 37 yards for a touchdown in Northwest’s 49-7 win at Missouri Southern. Dostal’s second-quarter pick-six put Northwest on top 21-0.
 
Special Teams
Ross Brungardt – Emporia State
Sophomore Ross Brungardt averaged 46.7 yards on just three punts in the Hornets 56-21 win over Lincoln. He had a long of 54 yards and has had at least one 50 plus yard punt in every game that he has punted in this year. He is leading the MIAA and ranked third in the nation in average punting this year.
