KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA has announced it's second men's indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week. Central Missouri's Vincent Hobbie won the Field Athlete of the Week while the Track Athlete of the week honors went to Romain Henry from Washburn.
Hobbie jumped 17-1.75 in the pole vault Friday at the UCM Invitational. The former national champion in the event is the first in Division II to hit the automatic qualifying mark and currently leads the nation in the event.
Henry finished second in the 400m breaking the school record in the event by over a half-second (49.41) at the Washburn All-Kansas Open. He also broke his own school record in the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.12 with an NCAA provisional mark with the fifth-fastest time in the nation this season while winning the event for the second time this season.
Other Notable Performances:
Peyton Barton - Missouri Southern
Barton won the weight throw at Central Missouri this past weekend with an NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 18.44m (60-06.60). His mark currently ranks first in the MIAA this season.
Jordan Garr - Missouri Western
Garr captured his second straight shot put title by winning the Northwest Open last Saturday with a NCAA Division II provisional mark of 16.72 meters (54-10.25 feet). He also finished eighth in the weight throw with a personal best throw of 15.67 meters (51.05-00 feet).
Peyton Lane - Washburn
Lane finished fourth at the Washburn All-Kansas Open in the pole vault with a mark of 4.83m (15-10.00), which was an NCAA provisional mark.
Blake Morgan - Northwest Missouri
Morgan won the high jump at the Northwest Open with a jump of 6-09.50, an NCAA DII provisional mark and a new meet record.
Ryan Stanley - Fort Hays State
Stanley won the pole vault competition at the Washburn All-Kansas Invite Saturday, clearing the 16-6.75 bar on his second attempt. The two-time All-American climbed to fourth on the national performance chart with his season-best provisional mark.
Wes Ferguson - Washburn
Ferguson broke an 8-year old school record in the 800-meter run by turning in a 1:50.60 Saturday at the Northwest Open. The time allowed him to win by over two seconds, places him first on the national list and bests the previous UNK record by almost a second.
Reece Smith - Northwest Missouri
Smith won the mens 3000m run in dominating fashion at the Northwest Open with a time of 8:18.35. His time met NCAA DII provisional qualifying time, set new Hughes Fieldhouse and Northwest Missouri State records.
