KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 12, 2021) - The MIAA announced its first wrestling athlete of the week for the 2020-21 season. This week’s honor went to Fort Hays State senior A.J. Cooper.
Cooper opened the season with a pair of first period pins in Saturday's FHSU Dual Jamboree. He got a fall in just 1:33 against Adams State and picked up a win over Colorado Mesa with a pin at 2:08. The heavyweight accounted for 12 of FHSU's points on the day in the two duals.
Notable Performances
Tyler Lawley - Newman
Lawley was 2-0 on the weekend, defeating Colorado Mesa, 12-6. He would also pick up a win over No. 10 Adam State's Grayson LeCompte to finish as the Jets' leading scorer.
Matt Malcom - Nebraska Kearney
Malcom picked up a pair of wins at 165 on Sunday in Ames, Iowa. He scored a 13-4 major decision agianst Iowa State and recorded a first period fall against Loras College.
