KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA announced its Postseason Awards and All-MIAA Teams for Men’s Tennis. Northwest Missouri’s Franco Oliva was named the 2018-19 Player of the Year. Southwest Baptist’s Adham Gaber was selected as the Freshman of the Year. SBU’s Fanni Varga was tabbed as the Coach of the Year by her peers as well.
Oliva is the 20th-ranked player in singles play and has played the entire season at the top of the Northwest line-up. He currently has a record of 25-9 and went perfect in MIAA matches this season. In doubles action, he has teamed up to win 18 matches including 14 at the No. 2 doubles position.
Gaber checked in at No. 23 in the latest national rankings and played the majority of the season at No. 2 singles. He has a season record of 15-2 and didn’t drop a match in MIAA play this season. Gaber teamed up with Raul Caballero in doubles for a record of 13-5 and to be ranked 23rd in the nation.
Varga led SBU to the 2018-19 MIAA regular season championship with an undefeated record in the association. She has currently coached four student-athletes to be ranked nationally in the ITA poll. Varga was also named the MIAA Men’s Coach of the Year last season.
