Miles, Dandridge, Wright claim Football Athlete of the Week Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA announced its Athletes of the Week following the second week of games. Missouri Western’s Jabbar Miles was selected as Defensive Player of the Week and Brandin Dandridge was tabbed with Special Teams Player of the Week. Braden Wright of Northwest Missouri was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week.

Miles ended two Fort Hays State scoring opportunities with interceptions inside the Missouri Western 5-yard line to earn Defensive Player of the Week. The senior safety ended the game with seven total tackles, two interceptions and a pass break up. Miles’ defensive performance helped the Griffons snap No. 5 Fort Hays State’s 13-game winning streak in the MIAA.

Dandridge averaged more than 28 yards per punt return on three returns to be named Special Teams Player of the Week. The senior took his first return of the night 58 yards to set up Missouri Westerns first touchdown that put the Griffons ahead 7-0 and propel them to a 23-13 victory.

Wright rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns while passing for 233 yards (23-of-35) and another score in a 38-17 win at Washburn to be selected as Offensive Player of the Week. He scored on a 27-yard run with 7:11 left in the second quarter to knot the game at 14-14. Later, Wright put Northwest ahead for good in the third quarter when he scored again on the ground from 17 yards out.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES - DEFENSE

Morgan Selemaea - Pittsburg State
Selemaea registered a pair of quarterback sacks in the second half as Pittsburg State pulled away for a 34-13 victory over Emporia State. Both his sacks came in the fourth quarter and also helped the Gorillas limit ESU to 3 of 13 on third-down attempts.

Grady Daniels - Lindenwood
Daniels helped Lindenwood score 28 points in the third quarter on Saturday after he took an interception back 50 yards for a touchdown as the Lions defeated Missouri Southern 51-13. Daniels added four solo tackles and two pass breakups as he helped Lindenwood hold Missouri Southern to just 11 completions for 33 yards.

Sal Silvio - Nebraska Kearney
Silvio led UNK in tackles with 12 (six  solo ) in a 31-27 win at Central Oklahoma. He had 1.5 Tackles for Loss and forced a fumble that was recovered by UNK. Silvio and the Loper defense held UCO to 3.3 yards per carry.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES - SPECIAL TEAMS

Jared Vincent - Pittsburg State
Vincent converted a pair of field goals and all four of his PAT tries in Pittsburg State’s 34-13 road win over Emporia State. Vincent booted a 23-yard field goal midway through the first quarter and 28-yard field goal with 8:23 to play in the third quarter, which knotted the score at 13-13.

Alex Langer - Central Missouri
Langer made two of two field goal attempts from 33 and 34 yards away in Central Missouri’s 62-10 win against Northeastern State. He also connected on all eight of his PAT tries.

Parker Sampson - Northwest Missouri
Sampson connected on all five extra points and drilled a 39-yard field goal to help Northwest to a 38-17 road win over Washburn. He also kicked off seven times and averaged 54.7 yards per kickoff.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES - OFFENSE

Erik Henneman - Lindenwood
Henneman caught four touchdown passes in a 51-13 win over Missouri Southern on Saturday. He broke a 22-year-old school record for touchdown catches in a game with touchdown receptions of 8, 12, 3, and 9 yards. Henneman ended the game with eight catches for 74 yards.

John Roderique - Pittsburg State
Roderique passed for a pair of touchdowns and rushed for a score to help lead Pittsburg State to a 34-13 road win over Emporia State. Roderique completed 11 of 22 passes for 220 yards in the game.

Jeremy Hunt - Central Missouri
Hunt split time at quarterback where he completed 11 of 15 passes in the Mules 62-10 win over Northeastern State. Two of his 11 passes went for scores, including a long of 51 yards. Hunt also added to the scoring with a rushing touchdown and went for 25 yards on the ground on four carries.

Alex McGinnis - Nebraska Kearney
McGinnis helped the Lopers win at Central Oklahoma, 31-27, by throwing for 166 yards and running for 58 yards. He was 6 of 8 in the air with a 38-yard touchdown pass and carried the ball 14 times. A 22-yard run and a 22-yard pass completion down the sidelines by McGinnis set up the game-winning score with 1:11 left in the game.
