PITTSBURG, Kan. – Pittsburg State Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Jim Johnson, announced he has elevated Assistant Coach Amanda Davied to head coach. Davied takes over for Lane Lord who accepted the head coaching position at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a NCAA Division I program.
Davied served the past 14 seasons as an assistant for the Gorillas. In her time as an assistant, PSU went 283-160, qualified for five NCAA Division II Tournaments with two Elite Eight appearances and an MIAA Regular Season Title in 2017.
She is also a former Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete at Pittsburg State. As a Gorilla, Davied earned All-MIAA honors three times including first-team accolades her senior year. She scored 1,299 points, which ranks ninth in PSU history and set career records for assists and free-throw percentage.
Lane Lord transitions into the NCAA Division I level after 11 seasons in Pittsburg. Lord had a 231-102 record for the Gorillas and was named MIAA Coach of the Year five different times.
