MIAA Earns Four Men's Soccer All-Americans; Agudelo National Player of the Year

Three FHSU Student-Athletes, One NSU Student-Athlete Recognized By D2CCA

POMONA, Calif. - The Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) announced its NCAA Division II men’s soccer All-Americans for 2018. D2CCA also named Fort Hays State’s Santiago Agudelo as the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year.

Agudelo was tabbed with first-team accolades at the forward position to go along with the Player of the Year award. He led Division II in seven categories; goals (26), total points (58), shots per match (5.82), shots on goal per match (3.29), game-winning goals (eight), goals per match (1.53) and points per match (3.41). Agudelo was also named the 2018 MIAA Player of the Year and the D2CCA Central Region Player of the Year.

FHSU’s Luis Torres was named second-team All-American for the defender position. He led the Tigers in minutes played (1,690) and scored five goals with two assists for a total of 12 points on the season. This is Torres second All-American team honor in his career, he was also a second-team selection in 2016.

Fernando Pina was the third Fort Hays State player to land All-American distinction as the goalkeeper was selected to the third-team. He ranked 12th in the country in goals-against average (.634) and save percentage (.829). Pina earned a 12-0-1 record in goal for the Tigers this season.

Northeastern State’s Joe Garcia was named a third-team All-American at the midfielder position. He ranked seventh in Division II for points per match (2.75), ninth for goals per match (1.08) and scored 24 goals on the season, second best in the MIAA. Garcia has earned All-American accolades for back-to-back years.
