KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the second consecutive week, Central Oklahoma swept the MIAA Women’s Soccer Athletes of the Week awards. Goalie of the Week honors went to Kelsi Gibson for the third time this season. The Defensive Player of the Week honor for the conference went Kelsey Gordon. Katie Killion was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week for the third consecutive week.
Gibson earned her 10th and 11th victory of the season in goal this weekend as 16th-ranked Central Oklahoma beat Lindenwood and 17th-ranked Central Oklahoma. She also earned a combined shutout in her win over LU and then earned her 10th shutout of the season in the Broncho victory over UCM. Gibson didn't face a single shot against the Lions and saved all four shots on goal that the Jennies took on Sunday.
Gordon once again led the defense of 16th-ranked Central Oklahoma to two shutouts. She helped UCO blank Lindenwood, allowing only one shot all game, in a 7-0 win on Friday. Gordon helped the Bronchos then take down 17th-ranked Central Missouri 2-0 on Sunday.
Killion continued her offensive explosion with five more goals this week as 16th-ranked Central Oklahoma went 2-0 with two shutout wins. She recorded her third hat trick of the season on Friday in a 7-0 win over Lindenwood. Killion then scored both goals in a 2-0 win over 17th-ranked Central Missouri on Sunday.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES - GOALIE
Jillian Patton - Emporia State
Patton did not allow a goal in 135 minutes in the net. She came off the bench on Friday with the Hornets trailing Missouri Southern 1-0 at the half and did not allow a goal as ESU came from behind for a 2-1 win. She started against Southwest Baptist on Sunday and had eight saves in a 1-0 Hornet win as she recorded her fourth shutout of the season.
Megan Kneefel - Fort Hays State
Kneefel went 2-0 for Fort Hays State in goal for the week. She picked up her third shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Northwest Missouri State and allowed just one goal in a 2-1 win over Missouri Western. She had a 0.50 goals against average, going the distance in both matches for a total of 180 minutes. Kneefel had seven saves for the week, producing an .875 save percentage.
Lindsey Johnson - Central Missouri
Johnson started in both games for the Jennies this weekend and earned her first career shutout against Northeastern State when Central Missouri won 6-0.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES - DEFENSIVE
Zariah Smith - Fort Hays State
Smith scored a game-winning goal and provided two assists to help her team to a 2-0 record for the week. In a 2-1 win over Missouri Western, she provided what proved to be the game-winning goal from about 30 yards out in the 82nd minute. In a 3-0 win over Northwest Missouri State, she provided assists on the first and third goals of the match on crossing passes from outside the box. As a member of the Tiger defensive back line, she played 97 minutes and helped FHSU to a 0.50 goals against average for the week.
Ashlyn Lakin - Emporia State
Lakin helped the Hornets hold Missouri Southern to just ten shots and only two on goal. She had an assist off a free-kick on the game-tying goal as ESU came from behind for a 2-1 win over the Lions. She helped Emporia State to their sixth shutout of the season against Southwest Baptist on Sunday, allowing only nine shots in the match.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES - OFFENSIVE
Rachel Marshall - Emporia State
Marshall’s shot from 15 yards out with 1:13 left in regulation completed the Hornets comeback victory over Missouri Southern on Friday afternoon. She scored the only goal of the match on a header off a corner kick with 9:00 minutes remaining against Southwest Baptist.
Olivia Grasso - Washburn
Grasso netted her fifth and sixth goals of the season last weekend for the Ichabods and extended her scoring streak to four games. She played a key role in the match against Southwest Baptist as she scored a goal and recorded an assist in the 2-2 draw. She also scored the final goal in the 3-0 victory over Missouri Southern on Sunday.
Macy Decker - Fort Hays State
Decker scored two goals against Northwest Missouri State in a 3-0 win on Sunday. She had the second and third goals of the match for FHSU, helping secure a 2-0 week for the Tigers. Both of her shots for the week produced goals.
