Lincoln, Neb. – Northwest Missouri claimed their eighth straight MIAA Men’s Tennis Tournament Championship with a 5-3 victory over Washburn from the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
The Bearcats grabbed the first point of doubles as Josef Altmann and Aymeric Autones earned an 8-0 win at #3 doubles. The Ichabods bounced back as Blake Hunter and Alejandro Valarezo Plaza earned an 8-2 win at #1 doubles. They would take their first lead as Tommy Hunter and Matt Barlow pulled out a 9-8 win at #2 doubles.
The Bearcats would get two back to open singles as Fin Glowick earned a 6-1, 6-2 win to tie things back up at #6 singles. Then in #5 singles Aymeric Autones used a 6-1, 6-1 win to put the Bearcats back on top. The Ichabods tied things up against as Matt Barlow defeated Mauro Tete 6-2, 6-2 at #3 singles.
NWMSU got back on top at the #2 singles spot as Sergi Fontcuberta pulled out a 6-3, 6-4 win . Romain Boissinot would then clinch the title with a 6-2, 7-6 win at the #1 singles spot.
Northwest Missouri earns the MIAA’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division II National Tournament while all other teams will find our their fate when the field is announced at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25 at
www.ncaa.com.
