Kansas City, Mo. – Third seeded Emporia State will take on fifth seeded Central Oklahoma in the MIAA Championship game scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. tip from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
The will mark the first time that neither the #1 or #2 seed has made the championship game since the 2008 tournament when fifth seeded Northwest Missouri defeated third seeded Southwest Baptist 82-58 tally.
The Lady Hornets earned their seventh straight trip to the tournament championship with a 78-62 quarterfinal win over Fort Hays State and a 58-50 win over Central Missouri in the semifinals. ESU enters the title game averaging 79.4 points per game while opponents only scored 58.0 points against them.
The Bronchos made their way to the title game by defeating Northwest Missouri 67-50 in the first round before earning a 69-58 win over Missouri Western in the quarterfinals. They completed the trip to the title game by earning an 84-82 win over LIndenwood in the semifinals. UCO is averaging 69.8 points per game and allowing opponents 61.4 points per contest.
The Lady Hornets are led by MIAA Player of the Year Kelly Moten who is averaging 18.2 points and a team best 4.5 assists per game. Addie Lackey is averaging 13.2 points per game and Krystie Miller is averaging 10.1 points per contest. Kathryn Flott is averaging a double-double with 10.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
The Bronchos are led by first team All-MIAA selection Melinda Murillo who is averaging 14.5 points and a team best 3.5 assists per game. Olivia Mason is averaging 11.3 points per game as is Jesheon Cooper who is also averaging a team best 8.5 rebounds per game. Marley Anderson is also in double figures averaging 10.4 points per contest.
The winner of the game will earn the MIAA’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
