MWSU SOFTBALL FALLS IN SUB-REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Griffons fall 13-5 to top seeded Southern Arkansas

Magnolia, Ark. – Third seeded Missouri Western could not overcome a six runs first inning by second seeded Southern Arkansas as they fell 13-5 in five innings in the NCAA Division II Central Regional #2 Championship.
 
MWSU fell behind 10-0 after three innings, but would answer with three runs in the top of the fourth inning starting with a Shelbie Atwell doubles that scored Morgan Rathmann. Paige Shifflett would then single to drive in Atwell before a Kailey Green sacrifice fly brought her home.

Trailing 10-3 in the top of the fifth MWSU would scratch across two more runs as Shifflett singled to drive in Rebecca Mueller and Megan Korgie. SAU would then walk off in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run home run bringing the eight run-rule into effect.

Shifflett finished two for three with three runs driven in while Taylor Hamilton also went two for three in the game.

 The Griffons finish the season 45-13 and were the MIAA regular season and postseason tournament champions.
