MWSU SOFTBALL EARNS SPOT IN SUB-REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Magnolia, Ark. – Third seeded Missouri Western struck for nine runs as they eliminated seventh seeded Central Oklahoma 9-0 in the NCAA Division II Central Regional.
 
Missouri Western got things started in the top of the second as Sydney Washington and Megan Korgie each hit run scoring doubles to make it a 2-0 advantage. They grabbed two more runs in the top of the third as Katie Klosterman singled to drive in a  run and Washington added an RBI sacrifice fly.
 
Rebecca Mueller scored a run in the top of the fourth as Shelbie Atwell was caught stealing. The Griffons would add four more in the top of the seventh as Taylor Hamilton led off the inning with a home run. Mueller walked to drive in a run and then Morgan Rathmann singled up the middle to drive in two runs.
 
For MWSU Washington went two for three with two runs scored and two runs driven in. Rathmann also went two for three and drove in two runs while Kailey Green scored two runs.
 
For the Bronchos Morgan Heard, Ashton Smith, Tori Collet, Carli Jones, Lauren Kelley and Rachel Harper all had base hits. In the circle for MWSU Janie Smith went all seven innings scattering six hits and striking out three.
 
MWSU will now face second seeded Southern Arkansas needing to win twice with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. on May 7 from Dawson Field in Magnolia, Ark. Central Oklahoma ends the season with a  40-20 overall record.
