St. Joseph, Mo. – Missouri Western outscored Washburn 23-8 in the third quarter to come from behind for a 67-57 win and claim at least a share of the MIAA regular season title in women’s basketball. It was the first regular season title for the Griffons since 2001-02.
For the Griffons Miliakere Koyamainavure led the way with 16 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. LaQuinta Jefferson added 14 points and Sarafina Handy finished with 13 points. Julia Torres added eight rebounds and Mhykeah Baez dished out five assists.
The share of the title earns MWSU a slot in Kansas City as the MIAA Tournament shifts to Municipal Auditorium on March 3, 5-6. The tournament starts on Feb. 29 as seeds 5-12 will play on campus sites. Seeding and tournament pairings will be announced on Feb. 27 when all games are completed.
