Kansas City, Mo. – Six different teams placed at least one player on the first team as the All-MIAA team for softball was released today.
Emporia State’s Stephanie Goodwin, who led the league with 58 runs batted in, was named the MIAA Player of the Year earning first team honors for the second straight season. She was also the only unanimous selection leading a trio of players from Emporia State. Emmie Robertson of Pittsburg State had a league low earned run average and a league high 212 strikeouts. Those stats earned her not just Freshman of the Year, but Pitcher of the Year as well.
Three time first team All-MIAA shortstop Taylor Zordel of Emporia State had just six errors on the year as she was named the Defensive Player of the year. Central Missouri’s Susan Anderson was named the Coach of the Year after leading her team to the regular season MIAA title.
Joining Robertson at first team pitcher was Central Missouri’s Katie Shockley. Joining Zordel on the infield was Central Missouri’s Lauren Mabe at first base, Missouri Western’s Tiffany Gillaspy at second base and Central Oklahoma’s Ashton Smith at third base.
Also in the outfield was Kaylee Brunson of Central Oklahoma earning her second straight first team honor. She is joined by Pittsburg State senior Cheslyn Mitchell in the three person outfield. McKenzie Rynard of Pittsburg State earned her second straight first team honor as desginated player.
The utility/non-pitcher was Emporia freshman Danielle Sprinkle while the utility pitcher was Washburn senior Lauren Thimmesch.
The MIAA Tournament begins on April 30 and runs through May 2 from the Blue Valley Recreation Complex in Overland Park, Kan.
