Maryville, Mo. – Northwest Missouri scored 14 points in the final five minutes of the game to pull out a 38-23 win over West Georgia to advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship.
NWMSU got the scoring going at the 10:24 mark as Cameron Wilcox capped off an 11-play 78-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run. Simon
Mathiesen added a field goal at the 2:19 mark to make it 10-0 as the first quarter came to a close.
The
Bearcats opened the second half with a Brady
Bolles three yard pass to
TJ Schieber to give them a 17-0 edge. Hunter Heck would add two field goals for West Georgia to make it 17-6 late in the first half. Brady
Bolles would run in from seven yards out in with 32 seconds to play to make it a 24-6 halftime edge.
Dallas Dickey would hit touchdown passes to
Telvin Brown and
Qa Walker to cut the lead to 24-20 heading to the fourth quarter. Heck would connect on another field goal in the first part of the fourth quarter to make it a one point game.
Brady
Bolles would connect with George
Sehl for a 64-yard score with 4:29 to play to put give the
Bearcats a 31-23 lead. Bryce
Enyard would then add the exclamation point with 3:39 to play as he returned an interception 61-yards for the score.
Bolles was 19 of 33 for 235 yards and a two touchdowns and also added 52 yards on the ground. Phil Jackson had 60 yards rushing and Wilcox finished with 40 yards on the ground.
Sehl was the leading receiver with 77 yards on two catches. Defensively Brandon
Yost led the way with nine tackles including one sack.
Northwest Missouri will face off with Shepherd in the National Championship on Dec. 19 at 3 p.m. from Sporting Park in Kansas City.
