Earn a 51-49 upset win over Minnesota State-Mankato

Mankato, Minn. – Seventh seeded Emporia State forced six total turnovers and got a last second field goal to earn a 51-49 win over second seeded Minnesota State.

ESU trailed 28-24 as the two teams went into halftime and then scored the first 21 points off the second half to get some breathing room. The Mavericks would answer and held a lead of 49-48 heading into the games final two minutes.
 
The Hornet defense got three fumbles and three interceptions on the day including one by JP Lohrentz with 1:51 to play to set up the game winning drive.

Offensively Brent Wilson was 27 of 43 for 437 yars and five touchdowns through the air. Kavaski Ervin caught six passes for 139 yards and a touchdown while Morris Williams II added 159 yards and a catch for a score. Austin Morton was three of three on field goals hitting the game winner from 33 yards out as time expired.
 
On defense Lohrentz had all three of the Emporia State interceptions also returned a fumble 46 yards for a score.
 
ESU will face the winner of third seeded Henderson State and sixth seeded Sioux Falls on Nov. 28 on the road.
