Kansas City, Mo. -- With only one team remaining undefeated key match-ups highlight week five in MIAA football.
Fort Hays State at Washburn
Fort Hays State will take a three game winning streak into Washburn as two teams from the sunflower state clash in week five. The Tigers are led by Treveon Albert who has 324 yards through the air and 119 yards on the ground with five total touchdowns. Edward Smith also has two rushing scored on 211 total yards while Ed Williams has 207 receiving yards and one score. On defense Justin McPhail has 31 tackles including three sacks and has also picked off two passes. For the Ichabods Vershon Moore is averaging 75.2 yards per game on the ground with one touchdown. DaJuan Beard has hauled in 20 passes for 231 yards and four touchdowns on the season. On the defensive side of the ball Calvin Kenney has 42 total tackles including three for a loss to go along with one interception.
Northeastern State at #1 Northwest Missouri
#1 Northwest Missouri will look to stay unbeaten on the season as they welcome Northeastern State to town. For the Bearcats Brady Bolles is 77- of 122 for 992 yards and five touchdowns adding 86 yards and three scores on the ground. Phil Jackson is averaging 45 yards per game rushing with five touchdowns and Robert Burton is averaging 80 yards per game rushing with four scores. On the defensive side of the ball Eric Reimer has 29 tackles, 7.5 of which have been for a loss and Matt Longacre has 3.5 sacks. For the RiverHawks Kevin Pantastico is averaging 245.8 yards per game through the air with four touchdowns also adding one on the ground. Garrett Powell has two touchdown receptions and Terrance Dixon has rushed for two scores. On defense Steffon Herd is leading the way with 28 total tackles.
Central Oklahoma at Nebraska-Kearney
Central Oklahoma will make the long trip north to Nebraska-Kearney where they will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season in the MIAA Television Network Game of the Week. For the Bronchos Chas Stallard is averaging 211 yards per game passing and 75.3 yards per game rushing with five total touchdowns. Connor Pulley and Josh Crockett have two touchdown catches each and Jake Gandara has rushed for a score. Chass Glaspie leads the defense with 33 tackles and Cody Jones has picked off three passes. For the Lopers Bronson Marsh has 497 passing yards and 213 rushing yards with seven total touchdowns. Cougar Williams has two touchdown receptions and Romero Cotton has rushed for 281 yards and a score. On defense Tyke Kozeal has 59 total tackles and George Brown has picked off two passes.
Central Missouri at Missouri Southern
Central Missouri will hit the road for Joplin and Missouri Southern as both teams look to pick up their third win. For the Lions Scott Lathrop has 171 passing yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 132 yards and a score. Giresse Forchu has a team best five rushing touchdowns and Michael Nelson has added four scores on the ground. On the defensive side of the ball Gaige Washington leads the team with 38 total tackles and Deon Price has picked off two passes. For the Mules MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week LaVance Taylor is leading the way averaging 142.8 yards per game on the ground with eight touchdowns. Hayden Hawk has 978 passing yards with five touchdowns and Kyle Echols has caught two of those touchdown passes. On the defensive side of the ball Ricky Spratley has a team best 41 tackles and Tevin Teamer has picked off two passes.
Lindenwood at Emporia State
Emporia State will return home to face Lindenwood as they look to pick up their third win of the season. For the Hornets Brent Wilson is leading the way with 1,280 yards and ten touchdowns adding one score on the ground. Austin Willis has caught 24 passes for 519 yards and six scores while Antonio Brown has found the endzone three times on the ground. On defense Josh Monteagudo has 29 tackles and Lyndell Johnson and Kadeem Satchell have each recovered two fumbles. For the Lions Marvin Byrde and Stephen Kaiser have each rushed for two touchdowns. Dillon Miller has two passing touchdowns and Graham Lindman has thrown one this season. On defense Connor Harris has a team best 47 tackles and has picked off two passes.
#19 Pittsburg State at Missouri Western
#19 Pittsburg State and Missouri Western will be battling for a fourth win as the two teams face off in week five in St. Jospeh. The Griffons are led by Raphael Spencer who is averaging 116.3 yards per game rushing with three touchdowns. Skyler Windmiller is 29 of 58 for 298 yards and two touchdowns and John Schmiemeier is four of five from field goal range. On defense Stephen Jergens has a team best 33 tackles and Michael Jordan has picked off three passes. For the Gorillas Anthony Abenoja is 72 of 114 for 1,043 yards and eight touchdowns. Marquis Cushon and Gavin Lutman have two touchdown receptions each and Jeff Seybold has five total touchdowns. On defense Tyler Disney has a team best 37 tackles and Deron Washington has three interceptions.
