Kansas City, Mo. – Three games saw high scoring while one game failed to break twenty points under the Thursday night lights in week two.
#8 Pittsburg State 38, Lindenwood 7
#8 Pittsburg State put up 476 yards of total offense on their way to a victory on the road at Lindenwood. PSU took advantage of two interceptions while holding the Lions to just 219 total yards.
For the Gorillas Anthony Abenoja was 20 of 31 for 323 yards and three touchdowns. Marquise Cushon caught five passes for 140 yards and a touchdown while Jeff Seybold and Gavin Lutman each caught touchdown passes. On defense Tyler Disney led the way with six total tackles while Dennis Tanner and Deron Washington each had an interception.
For the Lions Setphen Kaiser rushed for the lone touchdown with 3:01 to go in the fourth quarter. Dillon Miller was 10 for 24 for 80 yards while Kaiser finished with 50 yards for the game. On the defensive side of the ball Steven Pace led the way with seven tackles including two for a loss.
#1 Northwest Missouri 40, Missouri Southern 14
#1 Northwest Missouri did not allow Missouri Southern a completed pass as they picked up a win on the road. NWMSU picked off two passes and held MSSU to just 177 total yards rushing.
For the Bearcats Phil Jackson carried the ball 15 times for 86 yards scoring two touchdowns. Brady Bolles was 19 of 28 for 212 yards and two touchdowns through the air and rushed for 34 yards and two scores. On defense Eric Reimer led the way with ten tackles including two for a loss and Kevin Berg and DJ Gnader each picked off a pass.
For the Lions Giresse Forchu carried the ball 10 times for 49 yards and two touchdowns. Michael Nelson ran the ball 14 times finishing with 65 yards on the evening. On the defensive side of the ball Jahnquavious McBride and Dalvin Taylor each finished with 10 tackles.
Washburn 10, Nebraska-Kearney 7
Washburn hit a field goal with eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter as they picked up a win on the road at Nebraska-Kearney. The two teams played a very even game as WU finished with 316 yards and UNK had 290 yards of total offense.
For the Ichabods Mitch Buhler was 14 of 32 for 172 yards and touchdown while Sean McPherson finished with 63 yards on the ground. Brad Gourley caught just one pass on the night but it was an 87-yard touchdown strike. On defense Calvin Kenney and Akhmad Abul-Razzaq each had ten tackles and Mark Kolmer picked off a pass.
For the Loper Bronson Marsh was 7 of 25 for 101 yards rushing for 82 yards and a touchdown. Romero Cotton finished with 23 carries for 81 yards on the evening. On defense Dillon Loschen and Tyke Kozeal each finished with ten stops.
Central Missouri 50, #19 Emporia State 31
Central Missouri rushed for 341 yards as they upset #19 Emporia State in Warrensburg. The game saw seven total turnovers, but the Mules overcame their four as they earned the win.
For the Mules LeVance Taylor carried the ball 23 times for 288 yards and four touchdowns. Taylor added a touchdown through the air and scored on a 97-yard kick return giving him six scores on the night. On defense Ricky Spratley led the way with 16 tackles and Alex Perlin added 11 stops as Travion Vaughn and Kadarius Green had an interception each.
For the Hornets Brent Wilson was 40 of 62 for 489 yards and three touchdowns. Austin Willis caught eight passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns and Reese Richards caught six passes for 104 yards and a score. On defense Deveon Dinwiddie had 12 tackles and an interception and Jason Tetuan had 10 stops, Deshawn Dinwiddie and Josh Monteagudo also picked off passes.
