Kansas City, Mo. – Two of the six games went to overtime and were decided by a field goal as week five comes to a close in MIAA football.
Washburn 27, Fort Hays State 24 OT
Washburn held Fort Hays State to a field goal on the first possession of overtime to earn a victory at home. WU racked up 426 yards of total offense as they got a touchdown on the final play to win the game.
For the Ichabods Zeke Palmer was 17 of 30 for 275 yards and a touchdown with Jordan Hart catching six passes for 138 yards. Vershon Moore carried the ball 21 times for 108 yards and two touchdowns including the game winner. On defense Calvin Kenney had 10 tackles and Mark Kolmer added nine stops.
For the Tigers Treveon Albert was 20 of 32 for 217 yards and two touchdowns adding 93 total yards on the ground. Edward Smith rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown also catching a touchdown pass while Ed Williams caught six passes for 121 yards and a score. On the defensive side of the ball Justin McPhail had nine tackles and Daniel Lindsey picked off a pass.
#1 Northwest Missouri 49, Northeastern State 7
#1 Northwest Missouri racked up 409 yards of total offense on their way to a victory at home over Northeastern State. NWMSU held their opponent to just 147 yards while forcing three turnovers.
For the Bearcats Brady Bolles was 19 of 35 for 246 yards and four touchdowns with George Sehl, Korey Jackson, Robert Burton and Alex Visk each catching one. Burton, Phil Jackson and Cameron Wilcox all rushed the ball for a score. On defense Brandon Yost had seven tackles and Eric Reimer had six stops with Jayron Robinson picking off a pass.
For the RiverHawks Kevin Pantastico completed nine passes for 83 yards and Peter Udoumoh caught a touchdown pass. Prince McJunkins completed the lone touchdown pass on a fake punt. On the defensive side of the ball Lane Dortch had a game high 20 tackles and Steffon Herd added nine stops.
Emporia State 37, Lindenwood 22
Emporia State took advantage of three Lindenwood turnovers as they picked up a victory at home. ESU held LWU off the board until the 2:42 mark in the third quarter as they scored the games first 30 points.
For the Hornets Ty Reasnor was 30 of 37 for 196 yards and three touchdowns with Antonio Brown rushing for 104 yards and a score. Kavaski Ervin caught five passes for 43 yards and two touchdowns and Mitchell Foote added a TD reception. On defense Kadeem Satchell led the way with six tackles picking off two passes one of which he returned for a touchdown.
For the Lions Graham Lindman was 26 of 43 for 207 yards and three touchdowns on the afternoon. Alex Robinson had 90 receiving yards while Jaron Alexander hauled in two touchdown catches. On defense Connor Harris led the way with 23 tackles and Roderick Ryles made 14 stops.
Central Missouri 34, Missouri Southern 31 OT
Central Missouri got a Will Mondragon field goal in overtime as the defeated Missouri Southern on the road. The Mules forced a turnover of MSSU’s overtime possession as they moved to 3-2 on the season.
For the Mules Hayden Hawk was 20 of 33 for 202 yards and two touchdowns in the air while also rushing for a score. LaVance Taylor carried the ball 18 times for 120 yards and one touchdown. On defense Ricky Spratley led the way with 19 total tackles with Alex Perlin and Connor Smith adding 13 stops each.
For the Lions Scott Lathrop was six of 11 for 87 yards through the air while rushing a team best 93 yards. Giresse Forchu had 15 carries for 89 yards and three touchdowns with Michael Nelson also adding a score. On the defensive side of the ball Breon Matlock led the way with nine tackles while Michael Burks picked off two opponent passes.
Central Oklahoma 49, Nebraska-Kearney 0
Central Oklahoma forced six total turnovers as they picked up a victory on the road at Nebaska-Kearney. UCO racked up 421 yards of total offense as they picked up their fourth win of the season.
For the Bronchos Chas Stallard was 15 of 23 for 212 yards in the air adding a touchdown on the ground. Jake Gandara carried the ball 15 times for 92 yards and a game high three touchdowns. On defense Logan Orso had eight tackles and Chass Glaspie added seven stops while Cody Jones picked off two passes.
For the Lopers Bronson Marsh was 12 of 23 for 77 yards while rushing for 49 yards on the day. Romero Cotton carried the ball 19 times for 107 yards. On the defensive side of the ball Tyke Kozel led all players with 11 tackles and Famous McKinnon finished with nine stops.
#19 Pittsburg State 23, Missouri Western 13
#19 Pittsburg State held Missouri Western to just 192 total yards as they picked up a victory on the road. PSU ended up with 354 yards of offense as they moved to 4-1 on the season.
For the Gorillas Anthony Abenoja was 15 of 25 through the air with 183 yards and one touchdown rushing for a score as well. Marquise Cushon caught seven passes for 111 yards and Jamal Tyler hauled in a touchdown catch. Keeston Terry led the defense with seven tackles and Isaac Maselera picked off a pass while Connor Frazell connected on three field goals.
For the Griffons Skyler Windmiller was 12 of 27 for 144 yards and a touchdown hitting Stephon Weaver for the score. Raphael Spencer led the way on the ground with 17 carries for 83 yards. On the defensive side of the ball Meshack Kennedy had 12 tackles as Yomi Alli and Marc Harrison added nine stops each.
