#23 Pittsburg State knocks off NSU, SBU falls in non-confernce game

Kansas City, Mo. – The final three teams took to the field as week one in MIAA football came to a close.

#23 Pittsburg State 45, Northeastern State 6
#23 Pittsburg State racked up 582 yards of total offense on their home field as they rolled to a victory over Northeastern State. The Gorilla defense held the RiverHawks to just 244 yards of offense on the night holding them scoreless for three quarters.

For the Gorillas Anthony Abenoja was 18 of 24 for 228 yards and three touchdown. Jeff Seybold carried the ball six times for 132 yards and one touchdown and Gavin Lutman pulled down two touchdown receptions. Nate Dreiling made nine total tackles and Tyler Disney had seven tackles and two sacks. For the RiverHawks Thor Long passed for 103 yards and rushed for 14 scoring the games lone touchdown. Joel Rockmore rushed for 99 yards on the evening. On defense Langston Jones made 12 tackles while Victor Johnson finished with eight stops.

Truman 40, Southwest Baptist 37
In a non-conference game Southwest Baptist tied the game with 7:37 to play, but a field by Truman in the final six minutes gave them the lead for good. SBU finished with 549 yards of total offense, 475 of which game through the air.

For the Bearcats Willie Tindal was 28 of 42 and threw for 448 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for one. Derwyn Lauderdale caught 13 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns and Evan Ray caught three passes for 142 yards and a score. On defense Shaquille Shedd had 11 tackles and Evan Ray picked off a pass.
