Chuck Broyles, Football Coach/Athletic Administrator

Chuck Broyles led the Pitt State football program to the 1991 NCAA Division II National Championship and an MIAA record 198 victories during a decorated 20-year tenure as the Gorillas head football coach (1990-2009). Broyles earned NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year honors three times (1991, 2004, 2008). He led the Gorillas to four appearances in the NCAA-II National Championship Game, a record nine MIAA titles and 15 trips to the NCAA-II playoffs. In 1999, he became the first collegiate coach since the 1890's to reach 100 victories in less than 10 full seasons. Broyles serves as the chair of the NCAA Football Rules Committee from 2004-06, overseeing the committee as it dealt with implementation of instant replay and major rules relating to the play clock in 2006. Additionally, Broyles served as Athletics Director for 14 years (1996-2000). His tenure oversaw major facility enhancements on the PSU campus as well as the growth of full-time coaching positions within the department for the sports of baseball, softball and volleyball.
