1985 NCAA National Champions
The then-Indians were coached by Joey Haines who was named MIAA Coach of the Year six times and Missouri Track & Field Coaches Association Coach of the Year six times. Haines coached one NCAA Division I national champion, 23 NCAA Division II national champions, 10 NCAA Division I All-Americans and 145 NCAA Division II All-Americans.
The 1985 team was also part of Southeast's inaugural Hall of Fame Class in 2002. Members of that team included Keith Presberry, Earl Whiting, Earl Nichols, Jeff Randle, Carl Bell, David Jackson, Bob Ferguson, Jim Lohr, Tim Pigg, Kevin Lyons, John Schwepker, Ken Franklin and Norm Kellar. In addition, Jim Lohr was a two-time national high jump champion who won the NCAA Division II indoor title in 1985.
