Ryland Milner

Northwest Missouri (1929-33, 1937-75)

Milner was a member of the Northwest athletic department for 42 years. As an athlete, he was part of Northwest's 1931 undefeated MIAA championship football team (9-0) and was a member of three MIAA basketball championship teams (1929-30 (31-0), 1931-32, 1932-33). He earned All-MIAA football honors in 1931, and was an All-MIAA basketball selection in 1932-33.

Milner spent time as the head coach of Northwest's football (1937-57), basketball (1943-50), track and field (1946-50), golf (1947-75) and cross country programs (1958-62). He had a record of 90-63-13 as the head football coach, and won six MIAA championships (1938, 1939, 1941, 1942, 1948, 1952). He held a record of 70-59 as the basketball coach. As the track and field coach, Milner led the Bearcats to four MIAA Championships (1949 indoor and outdoor, 1950 indoor and outdoor).

Milner was inducted into the Northwest "M" Club Hall of Fame in 1981 and into Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 1989. The Milner Athletic Complex at Northwest is named in his honor.
