David Fisher | Missouri Southern
Baseball Student-Athlete, 1989-1992
A four-year starter for the Lions under head coach Warren Turner, David Fisher played on teams that posted an overall record of 153-63 during his playing career. Fisher was a key player in helping Missouri Southern reach the NCAA Division II World Series in 1991 and 1992 which included a national runner-up finish in 1991. Fisher was a two-time All-American, a two-time All-MIAA First Team selection and a First Team All-Region selection. In 1992, Fisher was also named the regional MVP. Fisher still holds or shares 12 Missouri Southern baseball records, including career marks for at-bats (744), hits (257), doubles (62), runs batted in (191), total bases (391), extra-base hits (90), sacrifice flies (18) and assists (555).
Fisher was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds after his junior season at MSSU and returned to play for the Lions in 1992 to improve his draft status. He was then selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 29th-round selection of the 1992 MLB Draft. Fisher spent five years in the Phillies’ minor league system, earning Player of the Month honors and played on teams that won championships in the Florida State League (1993) and Eastern League (1995). Fisher was promoted to the Phillies’ Triple-A club in 1996 before retiring from pro baseball.
