Missouri Western - Volleyball (1994-95)
Shelly Lowery was a two-time MIAA Volleyball MVP, winning the award in 1994 and 1995 after transferring to Missouri Western from the University of Missouri. In addition to being a two-time MIAA MVP, Lowery was named AVCA First Team All- American, NCAA Division II Championship All- Tournament Team, a two-time AVCA First Team All-South Central Region, South Central Region All- Tournament Team, Academic All-American and a two-time All-MIAA First Team selection. Her 809 kills in 1994 ranked first in MIAA history and third in Division II between 1981 and 2000. Her kill totals from each of her two seasons rank first and seventh, respectively, in MIAA history. Lowery recorded what was then an NCAA record with 17 triple-doubles. She broke, and still holds, the MIAA record with 361 blocks in a season while also breaking the MWSU record with 531 digs in a season in 1995. Lowery led the nation in blocks per set in 1995 with 2.62, a mark that ranks third in Division II all-time history. Her 684 kills in 1995 are the seventh most in MIAA history. In just two seasons with the Griffons, Lowery accumulated 561 blocks, an MIAA record at the time and currently sixth all-time. She is the only MIAA volleyball student-athlete ranked in the top-10 for career blocks with less than four years of playing time. Lowery led Missouri Western to its first-ever Division II National Championship appearance in 1995. She was elected to the Missouri Western Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.
