Grant, Jr., Allen Earn Mens Track & Field Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Frank Grant, Jr. (Southwest
Baptist) and Brian Allen (Pittsburg State) have been named MIAA
Men's Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week for the week
of Jan. 18-24 as selected by a conference SID panel. Grant, Jr.,
and Allen are both honored for the first time in 2010.
MIAA MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Frank Grant, Jr., Sr., Southwest Baptist
Grant, Jr., took first in the 200 meters at the Iowa
State Cyclone Open with a time of 21.65, currently the fastest mark
in the nation in Division II. The senior from Riviera Beach, Fla.,
also placed fourth in the 400 meters (49.28) and 11th in the 60
meters. Grant's times in the 200 and 400 were both school records.
His 400-meter time is currently 17th-fastest in the country. Grant
was the only sprinter at the event to break 22 seconds in the 200
meters. He finished behind two Olympians (Ivory Williams and Dexter
Faulk of Team Nike) in the 60 meters. At two indoor meets this
season, Grant has broken the school record in the 200 meters twice
(22.11 at the SIU Fast Start in December) and this past weekend at
the ISU Open.
MIAA MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Brian Allen, Sr., Pittsburg State
Allen secured a berth to the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor
National Championships with an automatic qualifying mark of 59-0
feet in the shot put at the MSSU Radio Shack Invitational. The
senior from Joplin, Mo., logged a provisional mark in the weight
throw (62-2.25 feet) as well. Allen scored victories in both
events at the meet.
