MIAA Men's Soccer Championship Game

Kansas City, Mo. – Top seeded Lindenwood will face second seed Fort Hays State in the MIAA Men’s Soccer Championship.

The Lions advanced with a 3-1 win over Upper Iowa in the semi-finals. Ignacio Romero got the scoring started for Lindenwood in the 22nd minute scoring an unassisted goal. Leandro Pena would knot things up in the 32nd minute connecting on a penalty shot. MIAA Player of the Year Mauricio Medina would put his team ahead for good in the 44th minute off a pass from Ignacio Romero and Axel Duarte.

Ithiel Vale would head in a shot off a corner in the 85th minute giving the assist to Ignacio Romero. Fermin Hughes made three saves on the evening to pick up the victory and advance his team.

The Lions are led by Aris Nukic who has 11 goals and five assists. Romero has seven goals and five assists and Medina has six goals and seven assists. In the net Fermin Hughes is 14-0-1 on the year with a 0.88 goals against average and 51 saves.

Fort Hays State advanced with a 3-2 victory over Northeastern State in the first semi-final. Fort Hays State's Ricardo Yeverino got things going when he took a pass from Jaccob Rangel in the 10th minute and buried it in the back of the net. Northeastern State answered less than 30 seconds later Jordan Schmoker scord off a Juan Peralta and Crosby Lee assists.

Michael Cole would then put FHSU ahead as he scored off a Jaccob Rangel pass in the 22nd minute. He would then add what would prove to be the game winner off a pass from Yerino in the 64th minute that found the center of the net. NSU would cut the lead to one in the 65th minute as Schmoker scored with a shot to far post off a pass from Peralta. Jason Babyak stopped six RiverHawk shots to pick up the first win of the tournament.

On the season the Tigers are led by Yeverino who has 11 goals and six assists. Diego Cabral has eight goals and six assists and Daniel Peralta has five goals and four assists. Between the pipes MIAA Freshman of the Year Jason Babyak has a 1.11 goals against average with 47 saves and five shutouts.

First touch for the game is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Nov. 9 from the College Boulevard Activities Complex in Olathe, Kan.
