NEW OPENING: Assistant Director of Legislative Services
The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) is an NCAA Division II conference headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. The MIAA is one of the nation’s oldest athletic conferences, founded in 1912. The MIAA is currently seeking a motivated individual for the position of Assistant Director of Legislative Services. This individual will assist in managing the Association’s legislation and compliance operations for the MIAA conference office and serve as the primary staff contact in these areas, supporting the MIAA membership and our governance committees.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Administration, education, interpretation and enforcement of NCAA Division II and MIAA rules and regulations.
- Development and implementation of compliance-related best practices education resources for member institutions.
- Engagement with Division II staff and CCACA on conference and national issues, legislation and compliance seminars.
- Oversee and provide education and resources to the MIAA membership on Name, Image and Likeness priorities.
- Provide guidance and recommendations for violations.
- Conduct investigations and reviews following allegations and/or inquiries, when necessary.
- Annual data collection of membership’s Division II violations and interpretation requests.
- Oversee the MIAA Faculty Athletics Representatives Committee.
- Manage Association’s contracts, including insurance documents and coverage.
- Oversee the Association’s Strategic Plan.
- Oversee the Association’s collection of data and required forms from member institutions.
- Provide support at select MIAA Championships.
- Assist in marketing the MIAA and brand exposure at MIAA championships and special events.
- Assist in the identification and solicitation of new MIAA corporate partners.
- Create unique opportunities to connect Kansas City businesses with MIAA activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree
- Work experience in intercollegiate athletics [Division II preferred]
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and policies
- Ability to multi-task and work under time constraints
- Public speaking and problem solving skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Strong administrative and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
Other Requirements
- Current CPR, AED, and first aid certifications required; training and recertification can be provided if necessary
- Compliance with MIAA employee policies and NCAA Division II rules and regulations required
- The ability to work long hours, including nights and some weekends as needed
- Limited travel as necessary

Salary Information: Starting annual salary based upon experience. Employer paid provided participation in the conference’s medical and dental insurance plans, and annuity plan.

CLOSING SOON: MIAA Internship Position – Spring 2026
The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association internship program is designed to equip individuals desiring to enter the field of intercollegiate athletics with valuable skills related to various areas of sports management and athletics administration (marketing, promotions, sports media, championships, etc.). The ideal candidate would have basic computer skills (familiarity with web content management and Adobe Creative Suite are preferred), effective verbal communication and writing skills, the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, and experience in event management or game day operations.
A minimum commitment of working 3-4 days per week (9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday) along with the ability to travel, work select nights and weekends is preferred. The MIAA is flexible in accommodating the schedule of currently enrolled college students. Interns will be expected to work all MIAA events, including, but not limited to the MIAA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, governance meetings and the annual awards celebration.
The MIAA is seeking to fill one position. The anticipated start date for this position is January, 2026 and will continue through June, 2026. This position will be provided a stipend of $750 per month, parking expenses, and work-related travel expenses.
