KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its All-MIAA/GAC teams and major postseason award winners from the 2026 men’s tennis season. Thirty-eight NCAA Division II men’s tennis players earned postseason honors, highlighted by the Association’s five major award winners.
Washburn’s Pavlos Parson was named the MIAA/GAC Player of the Year and Southern Arkansas’s Jonas Sommer earned the Freshman of the Year honor. Ouachita’s Ramon Strassmann and Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Eric Poindexter share the Association’s Sportsmanship Award, and Washburn Head Coach Kirby Ronning was selected as the 2026 Coach of the Year by his peers.
The 2026 All-MIAA/GAC men’s tennis team consists of 19 all-conference honors and 15 honorable mention selections. North and South Division leaders Washburn and Harding had six players earn All-MIAA/GAC honors. Ouachita had five All-MIAA/GAC recipients, followed by Nebraska Kearney, Northeastern State and Northwest Missouri with four honorees each.
MIAA/GAC Player of the Year
Pavlos Parson finished the regular season undefeated against his North Division opponents. The senior from Larnaca, Cyprus went 5-0 in the division at No. 1 singles and 5-0 at No. 1 doubles, playing with All-MIAA/GAC teammates Tommy Cecchetti and Benjamin Fock (1-0). Parson is currently the highest-ranked singles player in the league with an NCAA Division II national ranking of 42.
Southern Arkansas’s
Jonas Sommer earned the Freshman of the Year title after going unbeaten against South Division opponents. The first year from Germany went 5-0 at No. 4 and 5 singles against South Division teams and added a pair of in-division doubles wins as well with teammate Uwe Diehl.
Ouachita’s
Ramon Strassmann and Southeastern Oklahoma State’s
Eric Poindexter were both honored with the 2026 Sportsmanship Award. Poindexter is a sophomore from Apple Valley, Calif. on the Savage Storm’s tennis team. Strassmann is a senior from Mueselbach, Switzerland on the Tigers’ tennis team. He also earned Second Team All-MIAA Singles honors with three in-division victories from the No. 1 position.
Ichabods’ Head Coach
Kirby Ronning was voted the MIAA/GAC Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season. In his sixth year leading Washburn’s tennis programs, Ronning led the Ichabods to a flawless 5-0 North Division record and the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament. Washburn men are also the highest-ranked MIAA/GAC program with an NCAA Division II national ranking of No. 13.
