Bearcats Picked First In North Division, Savage Storm Earn South Division’s Top Spot

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA announced the 2020 MIAA-GAC Men’s Tennis Coaches Preseason Poll. Northwest Missouri was picked first in the North Division with Southeastern Oklahoma State picked first in the South Division. 

North Division
The Bearcats earned 29 points with eight-first place votes to take the top spot in the North Division. NW has claimed at least a share of the MIAA regular-season in eight of the last 10 seasons. 

Washburn was picked second in the poll with 22 points. The Ichabods also received a first-place vote in the preseason ranking. Newman was tabbed third as it competes in its first season as an associate member of the MIAA. Emporia State rounded out the poll for the North Division.

South Division
Southeastern Oklahoma State received four first-place votes and 32 points for first place in the South Division. The Savage Storm was named the Great American Conference Men’s Tennis program of the decade earlier this month by the conference office. 

The second place belonged to Southern Arkansas as the Muleriders earned 28 points and three first-place votes. In third place was Harding with 23 points as Ouachita Baptist trailed the Bison in the fourth spot. The South Division’s poll was rounded out Oklahoma Baptist.

The 2020 MIAA-GAC Men’s Tennis season gets underway on Friday, January 31. The conference championship begins on April 20 at the Bronchos Tennis Courts in Edmond, Oklahoma. For the complete schedules of matches for the 2020 MIAA-GAC Tennis Season, click here
