Rain Alters Saturday's Schedule, First Pitch Set For 10 a.m.

PITTSBURG, Kan. - Central Missouri and Central Oklahoma remain as the only unbeaten teams after two rounds of the MIAA Baseball Championship at Al Ortolani Field in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Potential rain showers have altered the schedule for Saturday, May 11 games as second-seeded Missouri Southern and sixth-seeded Lindenwood will now begin at 10 a.m. The next game will follow 45 minutes after the conclusion of the day’s first game, at approximately 1:15 p.m., between top-seeded Central Missouri and the winner of MSSU-LWU.

Fourth-seeded Pittsburg State and eighth-seeded Missouri Western will start 45 minutes after the conclusion of the UCM-MSSU/LWU winner (approximately 4:30 p.m.). The winner of PSU-MWSU draws third-seeded Central Oklahoma 45 minutes later at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Game 5: No. 6 Lindenwood 4, No. 7 Northwest Missouri 3
A ninth-inning home run from Mitchell Krebs powered sixth-seeded Lindenwood past and eliminated seventh-seeded Northwest Missouri. Krebs delivered the game-winner in the top of the ninth and broke a 3-3 tie. The Lions and Bearcats traded runs in the seventh inning to force a tie game heading into the final two innings. Krebs and DJ Miller each went for 3-for-5 at the plate for the Lions. The Bearcats were led by Jay Hrdlicka who was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Game 6: No. 8 Missouri Western 4, No. 5 Emporia State 2
A two-out, three-run ninth-inning home run blast by Missouri Western’s Casey Danley eliminated fifth-seeded Emporia State. Danley’s home run was his second hit of the day and preserved the Griffons’ season. MWSU scored the game’s first run in the sixth inning as ESU answered with two runs on a single in the bottom of the sixth. Jake Barton led the Hornets with eight strikeouts in eight innings of work.

Game 7: No. 3 Central Oklahoma 2, No. 2 Missouri Southern 0
Central Oklahoma used two runs in the fourth inning and a four-pitcher one-hit shutout that combined to strikeout 12 batters to knockoff Missouri Southern. UCO sparked its run with an RBI triple from Joe Mondragon and added another run a batter later with an RBI double from Taylor Avila. Broncho pitcher Gabe Littlejim went six innings and struck out five batters. Missouri Southern was led by Will Bausinger with six strikeouts over eight innings.

Game 8: No. 1 Central Missouri 5, No. 4 Pittsburg State 4
A four-run fourth inning helped Central Missouri slide past Pittsburg State and continue in the winners bracket. The big fourth inning by the Mules was started by Cole Taylor with an RBI double to left field and capped when Zak Whalin drove in a run off his field’s choice. The Gorillas scored Alex Achtermann on a Chaz Burgess RBI to even the score at four apiece an inning later. Whalin, again, advanced a runner home on a ground ball in the eighth inning which proved to be the game winner. PSU’s Achtermann accounted for three of the team’s four runs. Whalin was responsible for driving in two of UCM’s five runs.
