Washburn Scores 51 Second Half Points To Eliminate Southwest Baptist

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Second-seeded Washburn cruised past tenth-seeded Southwest Baptist 77-58 in the MIAA Men’s Basketball Championship at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. The 2019 MIAA Basketball Championships are presented by MoDOT’s Buckle Up, Phone Down campaign.

Washburn and Southwest Baptist were locked in a tight battle after one half as the teams played to 26-26 halftime score. However, the Ichabods came to life with 51 points in the second half behind a 54.3 percent shooting performance for the half. Jalen Lewis and Will McKee each scored 14 points for WU. Karim Mouliom led Southwest Baptist led 15 points and seven rebounds

NOTABLES
-Washburn grabbed 47 rebounds, the most in the 2019 MIAA Men’s Basketball Championship
-The Ichabods scored 40 of their 77 points in the paint
-WU improved to 5-1 all-time against SBU in the MIAA Basketball Championships
-Southwest Baptist limited Washburn to shoot 30 percent from the three-point arc in the first half
-The Bearcats made their first appearance in the MIAA Men’s Basketball Quarterfinals since 2014
