KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Tenth-seeded Southwest Baptist defeated seventh-seeded Lindenwood, 76-75 in the first round of the MIAA Men’s Basketball Championship at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. The 2019 MIAA Basketball Championships are presented by MoDOT’s Buckle Up, Phone Down campaign.
A layup followed by a three-pointer from Karim Mouliom with 1:04 left in the game sealed SBU’s spot in the MIAA quarterfinals. Mouliom’s five point swing pushed the lead to 74-70. After back-to-back free-throws from Lindenwood’s Brad Newman, the Bearcats iced the game on a Godfrey Rolle jumper with just 21 seconds remaining.
Southwest Baptist advances to play second-seeded Washburn on Thursday, March 7 in the MIAA Men’s Basketball Championship quarterfinals.
