KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Eighth-seeded Emporia State overcame a 16-point second half deficit to knock off ninth-seeded Northeastern State, 72-68 in the first round of the MIAA Men’s Basketball Championship at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri sponsored by MoDOT’s Buckle Up, Phone Down campaign.
The Hornets trailed by 13 at halftime but outscored the RiverHawks 46-29 in the second half to erase the deficit. ESU was led by Julius Jackson’s 20 points and Thomas Hassan’s 10 rebounds. Trent Cantrell scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds for NSU.
Emporia State will play top-seeded Northwest Missouri at 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 in the MIAA Men’s Basketball Championship quarterfinals.
