Bhat Leads Bronchos To Two MIAA Wins

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA announced its women’s tennis athlete of the week award. Central Oklahoma’s Kirtana Bhat was selected as this week’s honoree. It is her first award from the association this season.

Bhat led No. 4 Central Oklahoma to a 2-0 week in MIAA play, with wins at Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State.  She went 4-0 on the week and won both her singles matches and both her doubles matches. Bhat won 6-1, 6-1 at FHSU in the No. 3 spot and 6-2, 6-1 at UNK in the No. 4 spot. In doubles play, she never lost a point, winning 6-0 against both the Lopers and Tigers.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Constanca Crespo - Southwest Baptist
Crespo went 2-0 in a loss to No. 33 Midwestern State. In doubles, Crespo's team knocked off the 42nd-ranked Midwestern team, beating them 6-4. She also won on court No. 2 in singles, defeating her opponent in two straight sets.

Marta Ferrando - Northwest Missouri
Ferrando was a perfect 3-0 at No. 3 singles and a doubles win over the No. 10-ranked duo in the country as Northwest scored a pair of dual victories. She tallied a pair of three-set triumphs against Washburn and Cameron. Ferrando finished her week with a straight-sets win over Midwestern State. Ferrando and Tania Teruel teamed up to knock off the No. 10-ranked doubles team from Midwestern State.

Alexis Czapinski - Washburn
Czapinski went a combined 5-1 as she helped the No. 8 Ichabods to a 3-0 week with wins over Northwest Missouri, No. 26 Augustana, and Missouri Western. She remains undefeated at No. 2 singles and improved her record to 14-0.
