KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA announced its women’s basketball athlete of the week award. Fort Hays State’s Tatyana Legette was tabbed with this week’s award. It is the second time this season she has received the conference’s weekly honor.
Legette helped the Tigers defend their home court with a pair of victories in Hays, Kansas last week after averaging 17.5 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. She scored 17 points alongside seven rebounds and four blocks in a win over Northeastern State. Legette tallied 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks in a victory against Central Oklahoma on Saturday, January 12.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Paige Redmond - Central Missouri
Redmond led the Jennies in a 1-1 week scoring 25.5 points per game. She started out with 18 points in a win at Missouri Southern, then scored a career-best 33 points at Pittsburg State. She shot 44.4 percent from the floor and was 16-19 at the free throw line. Redmond also chipped in eight rebounds and five assists in the two games. In the win at MSSU, she entered UCM’s all-time top-10 in scoring with 1,463 points.
Brooke Carlson - Nebraska Kearney
Carlson averaged 16.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as UNK beat Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State at home over the weekend. She shot 43 percent from the field, added two blocked shots with five assists and zero turnovers in the two wins.
Hunter Bentley - Washburn
Bentley led Washburn to a pair of wins on the week to extend its win streak to eight games. She finished the week averaging 14.0 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 47.4 percent (9-19) from the field and knocking down 3-of-7 (42.9 percent) from three-point distance. In a win at Missouri Western, Bentley tallied 18 points and eight boards. She capped the week with 10 points and 11 rebounds at Northwest Missouri. Bentley filled out her weekly stat line with five steals and three blocks.
