Kansas City, Mo. — The MIAA announced the end of season wrestling awards for the 2017-18 season today as voted upon by the league’s coaches.
Central Oklahoma’s Eli Hale was named the MIAA Wrestler of the Year. Hale finished the season as the NCAA Division II National Champion at 125 pounds, capping a perfect 24-0 season. During the NCAA postseason, Hale outscored his opponents 109-14. Hale also claimed the 125 lbs MIAA tournament championship title this season. The Broncho also earned the title of the MIAA’s Most Dominant Wrestler after averaging 4.17 points per match, placing him fourth in all of NCAA Division II on the year.
Nebraska-Kearney’s Matt Malcom has been named the MIAA Freshman of the Year. Malcom finished fourth at the NCAA Division II Championships and was the 157 lbs MIAA Champion this season.
Dalton Jensen of Nebraska-Kearney was named the MIAA Coach of the Year after leading the Lopers to an MIAA Dual-Meet Championship, an MIAA Tournament Championship and an 8th place team finish at the NCAA Division II Championships.
