PITTSBURG STATE SWEEPS 2018 MIAA INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

SBU'S Armani Battle and PSU's NaRon Rollins win high points awards

Pittsburg, Kan. — Both the Pittsburg State University women's and men's indoor track & field teams successfully defended their MIAA indoor titles Sunday (Feb. 25).
 
The Pitt State women secured their second straight crown – and the program's sixth all-time MIAA indoor title – by the largest margin of victory in the 37-year history of the meet.
 
The Gorillas compiled 180.5 points to beat second place University of Central Missouri (77.25) by 103.25 points. The previous largest margin of victory came in 2013 when Lincoln University won by 76.5 points over Missouri Southern State University, 190.5 to 114.
 
Northwest Missouri State University (67 pts), MSSU (62.5 pts) and Southwest Baptist University (59 pts) rounded out the women's top-five team finishes.
 
SBU sophomore Armani Battle secured the MIAA Women's High Point Scorer Award. Battle scored 25 points in the meet, winning the 400 meters and placing third in the long jump, fourth in the 60 meters and fifth  in the 200 meters.
 
The Pitt State men garnered their second straight MIAA indoor title and the program's fourth conference indoor championship in five years.
 
The Gorillas posted 141 points in the 18-event meet to beat second place Emporia State University by 48 points, 141 to 93.
 
UCM (85.5 pts), Lincoln University (81 pts) and MSSU (81 pts) completed the men's top-five team finishers.
 
Pitt State junior NaRon Rollins claimed the MIAA Men's High Point Scorer Award with 21.5 points. Rollins raced to victories in the 60m and 200m disciplines and he helped the Gorillas' 4x400m relay to a third-place finish.
