KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA is pleased to announce a new home for the conference office beginning January 1, 2019. The office will remain in Kansas City and occupy space in the recently refurbished Hy-Vee Arena.
Hy-Vee Arena (formerly Kemper Arena in the West Bottoms near Downtown Kansas City, Missouri) recently completed a $39 million renovation to become the first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art regional sports hub for hundreds of local, regional and national youth and amateur events each year.
It is estimated that more than 500,000 people will visit Hy-Vee arena annually providing the MIAA an opportunity to connect with sports fans and promote its balanced student-athlete experience.
"The MIAA is one of the nation's oldest athletic organizations, and it is the only NCAA conference office located in the Kansas City Region,” stated MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy.
"The 14 institutions in the MIAA from Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri enjoy coming to Kansas City for events, championships and meetings. It is only fitting that the MIAA would locate its new conference office at Hy-Vee Arena, the Region's premier youth sports facility."
"We are excited to enter into this long-term agreement with Hy-Vee Arena and continue to call Kansas City our home!" added Racy.
One of the MIAA’s premier corporate partners, McCown Gordon Construction, was selected by the developers, Foutch Brothers LLC to serve as the construction manager for the Hy-Vee Arena project.
“We are honored to add the MIAA to our diverse list of tenants,” said Julie Rischer, General Manager of Hy-Vee Arena. “The arena attracts thousands of young people every year who will now be exposed to the schools which comprise the MIAA. Additionally, we're hopeful that the arena is chosen to host MIAA sporting and educational events for years to come.”
